Families all across Hays County are tightening their belts during the current economic recession and county government should do the same. As a two-term trustee of the largest school district in Hays County, Mark Jones is responsible for a budget in excess of $100 million. By stretching every dollar, Mark oversaw the opening of four new schools with two more under construction—without raising taxes. With a proven record of fiscal discipline, Mark Jones will ensure that county government is streamlined and efficient. He will stand up for taxpayers and end the cycle of irresponsible county tax hikes.
Mark Jones believes that Hays County must be proactive in meeting our growing transportation needs. That is why Mark supports regional planning and quick action to make our roads safer and more efficient. As a two-term trustee of one of the fastest growing school districts in the nation, Mark has a proven record of meeting the challenges of growth. As our county commissioner, he will bring the same energy and foresight to achieving long-term solutions to our transportation needs.
Mark Jones believes that Hays County needs a strong and diversified local economy. By attracting clean industry and higher paying jobs to the Buda/Kyle area, we can develop quality local employment. Currently, Hays County is more dependent upon retail employment than any other county from Austin to San Antonio, making our county more vulnerable during economic recessions and forcing residents to commute long distances for higher paying jobs. As our county commissioner, Mark will work to attract higher paying jobs to the area, giving more of our citizens the opportunity to advance their careers close to home.
As a former board member of a regional water district, Mark Jones understands the challenges facing Hays County’s water supply. Mark believes that action is urgently needed to provide for the county’s long-term water needs. As the Buda/Kyle area's advocate on the commissioner's court, Mark will support sensible water conservation efforts while working to increase northern Hays County's access to water through regional water partnerships. The quality and reliability of our drinking water is too important to ignore—the time for leadership is now.
For more than 20 years, Mark Jones has served his community as a school board trustee, water board member, and non-profit leader. Mark is a public servant, not a politician. As vice president of the Hays CISD School Board, Mark is meeting the challenges of growth without raising taxes. He worked to steward our precious water resources and found a non-profit to serve local women in need. Hays County families can trust Mark Jones to restore responsible leadership to county government.
